Why Garage Door Motors are Essential
The Foundation of Garage Door Function
The opener motor of your garage door is what makes the whole system work. If you can’t get movement from your garage door, installing a new motor may be the next step. However, motors are one of the most delicate and important components of a garage door. If yours is failing, please call expert garage door technicians.
Types of Garage Door Motors
Garage door motors come in four varieties: belt drive, chain drive, direct drive, and screw drive.
Belt drive garage door openers use a rubber or polyurethane belt to move the garage door trolley. Belt drive openers are smooth and quiet, but they’re also the priciest garage door opener to install.
Chain drive openers are more common and significantly less expensive. They use a chain, rather than a belt, to move the trolley. However, their metal-on-metal sounds can be unpleasant.
Direct drive openers, or jackshaft openers, feature a moving motor on a static chain. Like belt drive openers, jackshaft motors are more quiet and more expensive.
Screw drive openers move the trolley with a threaded steel rod. With less moving components than other opener systems, screw drive motors need less frequent maintenance and repairs.
